9 Days Uganda Safari – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
The 6 hours drive to Queen Elizabeth national park includes a stopover at the Uganda Equator for photography and an early lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara. The drive through the Bunyaruguru tea estates is spectacular. Arrive at the lodge in evening. Overnight stay at Parkview safari Lodge or Enganzi Safari Lodge
Day 2: Game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park
After an early morning breakfast undertake a game drive in the Kasenyi plains. Most interesting game drives in Queen Elizabeth national park are done as early as 6:30 am; and perhaps at 2:00 pm.
In the afternoon a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel is quite phenomenal. Expect to see schools of hippos, herds of buffaloes and a float of crocodiles along the water channel notwithstanding a plethora of both endemic and migratory birds. Overnight stay at Parkview safari Lodge or Enganzi Safari Lodge.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking
Enjoy a chimps trek either in Kyambura Gorge or Karinju Forest. Later transfer to Ishasha – the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park in search for tree climbing lions. later to transfer to Ruhija or Buhoma sector of bwindi Impenetrable national park. Overnight stay in Mahogany Springs or Gorilla Forest Camp. Depending on gorilla permits availability visitors may have to travel up to southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking
At 7:00 am converge at the park headquarters for briefing from the senior park ranger before beginning the gorilla trekking at 8:00 am. Usually it takes between 1 to 3 hours to encounter the mountain gorillas. Visitors are allowed a full hour to stay in the presence of these gentle giants.
Day 5: Visit Lake Bunyonyi
In the morning transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – the second deepest lake in Africa. A visit to Nyombi swamp is ideal for bird watchers; high rope course and zip-lining; boat riding to Kyahugye island and hiking the Kyahugye hill is quite rewarding. Overnight stay at Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Bunyonyi Rock Resort
Day 6: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park
After breakfast, transfer to Lake Mburo national park. This is roughly a 4 hours drive. You may have your lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre and later proceed to the park for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. Expect lots of buffaloes, giraffes, hippos and different antelope species. A nigh game drive in this park is highly rewarding. At night expect to encounter genet cat, bush pigs, white tailed mongoose, and if you are lucky a leopard or a male lion can be spotted. Overnight stay at Mihingo Lodge or Kigambira Safari Lodge.
Day 7: Game drive in Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo national park is home to over 350 bird species and mammals including The Rothschild Giraffes, zebras, impalas, elands, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, topi, reedbuck, buffaloes, hippo, leopard, warthogs and hyenas. Undertake a morning game drive and later transfer back to Kampala. Overnight stay in any hotel of your choice.
Day 8: Visit the Source of the Nile
In the morning undertake a 2 hours drive to the Source of River Nile – the word’s longest river. Here you may do bungee jumping, white water rafting or horse back riding. In the evening return to Kampala.
Day 9: Kampala or Entebbe city tour
On this day you may choose to do tour of the Kampala city including the Bahai Temple (the largest in Africa), the Gadaffi Mosque, The Kasubi Cultural Tombs; or Entebbe environs – the Botanical Gardens, The Entebbe Zoo or Ngamba Chimpanzee Island. In the evening your tour guide will drop you at Entebbe International Airport for your international flight.
