Kigali, Bwindi NP, and Volcanoes NP

My family of 4 had a three day tour with Gorilla Trek Africa. We were picked up from our hotel in Kigali, Rwanda and drove to Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge in Uganda, just south of Bwindi. Next day we went gorilla trekking in the morning in Bwindi and then drove to Da Vinci Lodge near Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda where we did the golden monkey trek the following morning and then made it back in time to Kigali for our evening flight.

Our guide John Bob, was fantastic as he was a very knowledgable about African history as a whole and was also very knowledgable about wildlife and geography, specifically about the formation of the rift valley. Upon our request, he even took us to visit the Kigali genocide museum on our first day before we took the road for Uganda and he fluently explained to us the history of what took place and what it means for the world going forward.  Bob also surprised us by making a short video of our trip which he showed and sent to us on the second day. He took some videos of our trip and our actions and created a little video in which we were “the characters in our own film” and the gesture is something we will remember from the trip as his gift to us.

One of our family members had been having a foot problem, so Bob was also able to arrange a very short hike for us in Bwindi which was very doable and we got to spend a great hour following around the gorillas. Seeing the golden monkeys was actually my personal highlight of the trip and I would recommend doing that as well.

In booking the trip, Nelson was well organized and flexible in his ability to create an itinerary that matched exactly what we needed. Initially I was looking to do a longer trip in Uganda and he had a very nice itinerary planned out for me, but then when plans changed he was able to shorten it before we confirmed the booking. Gorilla Trek Africa also offered very reasonable prices compared to other companies, especially foreign / non-local companies and I felt more comfortable traveling with a local company that specializes in the region anyways. Bill, the USA representative was also very helpful during the booking process as he was available for phone calls to give an idea of what the trip would look like and talk a little bit about his experiences when visiting Uganda and Rwanda.

Overall, I highly recommend this company for any travels to Rwanda and Uganda. Great experience and I hope to go there again some day and see more of the country.

Wonderful trip! Top notch service with our driver/guide Geoffrie!!

We spent 5 days in Rwanda. Our first day we toured Kigali, and visited the Genocide memorial. Over the next 3 days we went gorilla trekking, hiked to the Dian Fossey gravesite, and saw the golden monkeys. We stayed at the Five Volcanoes hotel, were the service was first class all the way. Geoffrie was a wonderful guide, and went out of his way to make the trip special. I would highly recommend Gorilla Trek Africa!

Gorillas Made Even Better By Our Experienced Local Guide, Chris

The one week my husband and I spent in Rwanda and Uganda was a highlight of our month long Africa trip. We hiked to an incredible gorilla family in Uganda — complete with a one month old baby gorilla — and got to explore Rwanda’s Volcanoes Natl Park and Lake Kivu. The success of our trip is in large part due to our amazing Gorilla Trek Africa guide and driver, Chris Ngabirano. Chris is a kind and thoughtful man who spent six years habituating gorilla families (living with them, eating with them, all with the aim of studying them and making them comfortable around humans). He is still active in the conservationist community, participating in the gorilla census as well as other animal and flora counts. In addition to this work, he is the elected representative for his community (which borders Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where we gorilla trekked) and regularly speaks before parliament. Wherever we went, people seemed to know Chris (not to mention some of the gorillas in the park who still remember him from the habituation process). We enjoyed countless interesting and frank conversations with him during our private drives in the Gorilla Trek Africa 4×4, in the process learning so much about Rwandan and Ugandan culture. Chris’s own family history touches on both the highlights and lowlights of Rwanda’s recent history and hearing his stories was incredibly powerful. We thought we were coming to Rwanda and Uganda to simply see the gorillas but we left having a true cultural experience.

Highly recommend!

We had a most excellent time with Wiliam as our driver throughout Uganda and Rwanda. We saw chimpanzees and gorillas on two excursions!!!! If you’ve ever wanted to see gorillas in the wild, do it! The accommodations were amazing, William was kind and answered all of our questions. Booking was easy!

9 Day Tour of Rwanda / Uganda including 2-day Gorilla Trek and Safari!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about David and Charles (our guides with Gorilla Trek Africa ) and our overall experience with the company. Not only were they super experienced and knowledgeable about that area and timing process to cross the border and get around between Volcanoes National park in Rwanda to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda and the Impenetrable Forest National Park in between, but they were just fun and like friends that were a part of our group! In fact, I am sure we will remain friends and visit again in the future! Every day they showed up ON TIME and with an amazing attitude and they assisted us with everything from hiring porters and tour guides, to communicating with locals, visiting orphanages, donating our shoes and clothes we brought, exchanging money, going shopping…literally whatever we wished to do they made happen! I also have to mention that David is like “the mayor of Rwanda ad Uganda” ! lol. He literally knew everyone wherever we went and was well respected. We felt so safe the entire time despite what the American media has to say, and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone as the trip of a lifetime and completely worth doing!

10 days Rwanda Uganda Gorilla Safari

We had an amazing time with my husband during our 10 days safari organised by Gorilla Trek Africa. The booking process was really made easy by Nelson. He answered my multiple questions really promptly, usually within 24 hours, and was really easy to deal with.

The safari itself was really well organised. The itinerary alternated well with walk/treks to see different primates (the golden monkeys, the amazing gorillas and the chimpanzees), game drives in the main national parks of Uganda and driving. The accomodations were of really high standards – even if we booked for budget accommodations the place where we stayed were never budget. It was very nice places, well located, with private cottages most of the time and superb views. The food was good with fresh local products. Our guide was really knowledgeable, a bit quiet at times, but doing his really best to show us as much wildlife as possible (we got to see lions 4 times during our trip, including tree climbing lions which was really amazing). He drove very safely as well and we never felt unsafe even on the very bad dusty roads.

Overall, we chose Gorilla Trek Africa because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor and we definitely recommend to go with them.

Solo Gorilla Trek Tour

I researched plenty of tour companies to book my trip to Rwanda with before settling on Gorilla Trek Africa due to the good reviews online and positive feedback and so glad I booked with them! My experience with Gorilla Trek Africa was outstanding, from the initial enquiry and booking via email where Nelson the manager was super responsive to all my questions, to the actual trip itself. My driver/guide Julius was very professional and was so keen to make sure I got the most out of my experience. The accommodation at Gorilla Solution lodge was also great and the Gorilla Trek itself of course the highlight!! Rwanda is so well organised and clean and the people so lovely, as a solo female traveller I couldn’t have felt more comfortable. I can highly recommend using them and hope to make use of their services again!

Amazing 2-day Rwanda Gorilla Trek!!!!

Doing the gorilla trek in Rwanda was on my bucket list for years and I finally made it happen thanks to Gorilla Trek Africa. From start to finish, this was a seamless and outstanding experience. It all began with exceptional communication with Nelson. I had many questions and he always responded with a thorough answer in a timely manner. The 2-day gorilla trek began with my driver, Norman, picking me up in Kigali. I liked Norman right away. He was very polite and professional. I actually felt like I’d known him for years. The first day consisted of us touring Kigali and having a delicious lunch before heading towards Volcanoes National Park. I chose a budget accommodation and I can’t tell you how pleased I was. I loved everything about the lodge(Gorilla Solution Lodge) and the staff provided me with excellent customer service. The next morning I did the trek!!! It was an experience I will never forget and I really appreciate the service everyone at Gorilla Trek Africa provided. To Nelson, Norman, and the rest of the staff…THANK YOU!!! Don’t hesitate to book your tour with them.

The trip of a lifetime for animal lovers.

Donna (76) and Georgie (72) just returned from Rwanda/ Uganda Africa on tour with Gorilla Trek Africa. Nelson put together an 11-day adventure suitable for our age and abilities. The itinerary and lodges he chose were ideal for us and far exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful guide, Elvis, who was so kind and accommodating and who learned our interest and did all in his power to show us amazing things we wanted to see. Elvis has a nickname “Encyclopedia Elvis” and he lived up to it. He knew all about the history, flora, fauna and birds. Elvis had a wonderful rapport with the other guides and lodge staff and we felt so welcome in each and every place. He is an wonderful guide and driver. Elvis went out of his way to make us happy. Uganda is a gorgeous peaceful country with so much to see. We had 4 treks that we were very able to do, the highlight, of course, being the gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. We were able to do the trek with the help of porters and rangers. The rangers put us on the easiest trek, due to our ages, and at Elvis’s request. Everyone was so helpful. Uganda is undiscovered by Americans which won’t last long. We met a few Americans, but many Europeans and Australians. The lodges we stayed in were very comfortable and the food was excellent. Service and cleanliness is unsurpassed at each lodge. Donna and I would highly recommend Gorilla Trek Africa. Don’t let age or disability stop you from this wonderful adventure. You can do it!
