The 7 days double gorilla trek is a package designed for visitors very enthusiastic towards primates. This is a great opportunity to track mountain gorillas in both Uganda and Rwanda. Kibale forest national park, with 13 primates species, is worth visiting. One may also consider adding golden monkey tracking to this itinerary. Queen Elizabeth national park, too, spices up this package with great game drives in search for cats and the “Big four”.

Detailed Double Gorilla Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala – Kibale forest
As early as 7:00 am local time, transfer to Kibale Forest National Park via Fort Portal. The drive distance between Kampala and Fort Portal is roughly 296 Km. Thus at 80 Km / hour, it takes between 3 to 4 hours to cover this distance. Dinner and overnight at Crater Safari Lodge / Primates Lodge – Kibale / Ndali Lodge / Kyaninga Lodge (Full Board)
Day 2: Chimp Trekking and Nature walk
At 6:30 am, take your breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing by the park ranger. At 8:30 am you will transfer to the beginning of the tracking trail. Usually, it takes a minimum of 3 hours tracking the chimps in the forest.
After the chimp trek return to the lodge for a hot lunch and later transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. The drive distance here is roughly 130 Km ( a 2 hours drive). After lunch at the lodge, go for a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel connecting lakes Edward and George. The channel attracts over 70% of the wildlife in this park. Big herds of buffaloes, hippos, water-bucks and a plethora of migratory birds make this park phenomenal.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park
After a morning game drive, transfer to Bwindi via Ishasha – the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park in search for tree climbing lions. Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs Lodge / Gorilla Forest Camp (Full Board), etc.
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking
On this day, you have a chance to penetrate the impenetrable Bwindi Forest in search for these humble Giant Apes. Gorilla trekking takes 2 – 8 hours and goes through steep rocks, climbing up and down making it tiresome before finding gorillas camouflaged in dense green vegetation. However, the thrill of encountering these giant primates erases the poor memories you went through in trying to find them. Return to the lodge for lunch and later proceed through Cyanika boarder to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda. The drive is estimated to take between 2 to 3 hours. Dinner and overnight at Silverback Lodge, Teloreza or Five Volcanoes
Day 5: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes national park
In the morning converge at Kinigi park headquarters with other trackers for breakfast and briefing by the park warden and allocation of the gorilla group for tracking. The gorilla tracking experience here, depending on the group assigned to you, may also take between 2 to 4 hours. On return transfer to Kigali, a 2 to 3 hours drive.
Day 6: Transfer to Akagera national park
After breakfast transfer to Akagera national park in search for the “Big Five” including the lions, black and white rhinos, buffaloes, elephants and the leopards. Overnight stay at Ruzizi Tented Camp, Akagera Rhino Lodge, etc.
Day 7 Akagera game drive and departure
Enjoy your breakfast and go for a game drive. You may also include a boat cruise Akagera in search for crocodiles and hippos; later transfer back to Kigali for a visit to Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site. This is a 1 to 2 hours drive. Depending on your plans, you may have return flight in the evening.
