2 Arsenal legends, Robert Pires and Ray Parlour have enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Rwanda which included trekking the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. The pair, together with their families also enjoyed other experiences in the Land of A Thousand Hills including visiting Nyungwe National Park, Kayaking at Lake Kivu, tea picking, archery, and golf at Kigali Golf Resort.
The two Premier League legends were invited by Visit Rwanda for a bucket list tour of the East African country. The tour was part of the partnership deal between Arsenal FC and Visit Rwanda signed 4 years ago to promote Rwanda’s tourism industry.
What did 2 Arsenal legends – Pires and Parlour do in Rwanda?
Pires and Parlour together with their families enjoyed a variety of vacation experiences during their Rwanda tour. Indeed the pair were highly impressed by the experiences they encountered as they were full of praise at the end of their trip.
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
The experience of seeing mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park seemed to be the most impressive to both Pires and Parlour. The pair were full of praise to the primates after meeting them in their natural habitat after being fascinated by the way the primates were going about their routines in the forest. Like the experience is with other visitors, pires and Parlour also appeared to be exhausted by the trek through the rugged montane forest terrain before they finally reached their allocated gorilla family. They were also taken through the normal gorilla trekking guidelines by the rangers being embarking on the adventure.
2 Arsenal legends – Crossing the canopy walkway in Nyungwe National Park
The pair had another breathtaking experience to enjoy and that was in the southwest part if the country in Nyungwe National Park. They tested their resilience with heights by getting onto the over 70m high canopy walkway. From the top of the forests, the visited were amazed by the fascinating surrounding of the area made of beautiful hills, forests and communities as well. While in Nyungwe, they were also able to spot some of the 13 primate species that live in the park including monkeys and chimpanzees.
Kayaking in Lake Kivu
The two veteran footballers also made a trip to the west of Rwanda and had some fun at the beautiful Lake Kivu. They decided to challenge each other in a kayaking contest in which Parlour managed beat his former teammate by country mile.
